IBM EXPANDS AUTONOMIC COMPUTING EFFORTS WITH NEW BUSINESS PARTNER INITIATIVE

Segrate, 14 aprile 2003 - Ibm announced an autonomic computing business partner initiative in an effort to identify, recruit and support partners in the development of self-managing computing systems. The introduction of the business partner initiative is an extension of Ibm´s current Partnerworld efforts. It is intended to assist independent software vendors (Isvs) and systems integrators in adding functionality to Ibm´s existing autonomic computing product offerings, as well as leveraging the company´s existing and emerging autonomic technology portfolio. The new initiative will offer benefits for qualified partners that include: On-site and remote access to Ibm technology and resources for product validation and testing at one of Ibm´s worldwide Solution Partnership Centers (Spcs). It will also enable partners to take full advantage of Ibm´s existing and emerging autonomic computing capabilities and technologies; One-on-one technical consultations with Ibm e-business architects to assist in implementing autonomic capabilities; Participation in autonomic computing educational events and joint marketing programs. "As information technology systems become more challenging and costly to maintain, Ibm will rely on key business partners to help us develop and deliver the future technology that allows companies to remove the headaches of complexity while improving business gain and productivity," said Alan Ganek, vice president, Ibm Autonomic Computing. "Business partners who recognize the value and importance of open standards that are so central to the evolution of autonomic computing will help us transform a customer´s business so they can operate in an on-demand environment." Last week, Ibm announced new technologies and an open architectural framework to act as a blueprint in the creation of autonomic computing systems. These new technologies provide developers and customers with the building blocks that are compliant within the framework of the new blueprint. These technologies manifest the attributes of an autonomic computing environment and are intended to help developers build a dynamic It infrastructure, so system elements are running and managing themselves. Collectively, the technologies enable a business to become more efficient by reducing the difficulty in analyzing problems in multi-component systems. They are intended to expedite the ability to diagnose and rectify problems and to be more responsive to external and internal changes through the use of intelligent monitoring software. Together, they can monitor, predict and correlate events and optimize overall performance by identifying the causes of the bottlenecks and managing workloads.
