DAIMLERCHRYSLER AEROSPACE AIRBUS: ORDERS FOR FREIGHTER CONVERSIONS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD

Hamburg/dresden July 10, 2000 - Daimierchrysler Aerospace Airbus Gmbh is very successfully offering freighter conversione of Airbus lndustrie´s widebody aircraft. Since the end of 1993, 41 converted A310-200 freighters have already been delivered to the American air freight carrier Federal Express alone. Since the beginning of 1994, a total of 79 freighters of the A310 and A300b4 type have been converted at Daimlerchrysler Aerospace Airbus (together with the French partner company Sogerma, Toulouse). Sogerma is a 100% subsidiary of Aerospatiale Matra. The newiy-converted freighters offer quick, cost-efficient transport for 38 to 50 tons of cargo. Daimlerchrysler Aerospace Airbus handles all design and manufacturing tasks for the conversions, and also produces the kits. The conversion kits consist of a large cargo door with the associated struttural parts, a new floor and the material required for systems modifications. In addition to a range of cargo loading systems, other options are also available. In all cases, Daimlerchrysler Aerospace Airbus is directly responsible to the customer, and can thus orient its activities fully to customer needs. Marketing and product support assistance is provided by Airbus Industrie. Since mid-1996, conversion of the aircraft is performed at Elbe Flugzeugwerke Gmbh in Dresden, a 100% subsidiary of Daimlerchrysler Aerospace Airbus. Since the end of 1997, freighter conversion may also be carried out at Sogerma in Toulouse. 22 Airbus aircraft per year can be converted in Dresden and Toulouse taken together. As freighters, Airbus Industrie widebody aircraft combine impressive economy with excellent freight volume and quick cargo handling, and feature sufficient space for standard containers and pallets both in the main and underfloor cargo compartments. In addition, these aircraft are quiet enough to satisfy Stage Iii rules (reguiations defining maximum noise emission levels for the certification of new aircraft), and are considerably less polluting than older freighters. The largest converted freighter in the Airbus Industrie family of aircraft is capable of transporting up to 50 tons over a range of 3350 nm. A freighter conversion takes an average of four months. Market researchers forecast a worldwide demand for up to 800 freighter conversions in the mid-size category (30 to 50 tons) over the next 20 years, both to replace aging freighters and to satisfy growth in the cargo market, estimated at approximately 6% per year. Especially for the A300-b4 which entered service in 1975, the expected booming demand has become reality. Eat (European Air Transport, a 100% subsidiary of Dhl) based in Brussels has ordered five converted A300b4. In addition, the company has leased more A300b4f from Pinnacle Aircraft Leasing, the first of which was delivered at Dresden in December 1997. Today, the company operates 13 A300b4f throughout Europe. Furthermore, the German Air Force commissioned four A310 conversione in a combi layout. The first Multi Role Transport (Mrt) was delivered in Dresden on March 25, 1999. Conversion was carried out in cooperation with Lufthansa Technik Ag, together with which Daimlerchrysler Aerospace Airbus had founded a consortium for this purpose in 1996. In addition, the A310-300 conversion program was launched in October 1999. The first delivery will be made in February 2001. The launch of the A300-600 conversion is corrently being prepared and the first delivery is scheduled for early 2002. To date, a total of more than 100 freighter conversione have been ordered. Daimlerchrysler Aerospace Airbus Gmbh develops and produces around one third of the European Airbus. Through the Airbus Industrie Materiel Support Centre (Msc) organization and on behalf of Airbus Industrie, Daimlerchrysler Aerospace Airbus in Hamburg is responsibie for providing spare parts to the Airbus fleet worldwide (approx. 2200 aircraft). In 1999, Daimlerchrysler Aerospace Airbus Gmbh (Da Airbus) booked sales of Dm 6. 532 billion (£ 3. 340 billion). Research and development expenditures at Daimlerchrysler Aerospace Airbus amounted to approximateiy Dm 500 million (£ 265 million) during 1999. Currentiy, the cohcern employs approximately 15, 300 persons. In July 1992 and retroactive to January 1 of that year, the aircraft manufacturer (at the time under the name Deutsche Aerospace Airbus Gmbh) was integrated into Deutsche Aerospace Ag (Dasa), today´s Daimlerchrysler Aerospace Ag. Company activities focus on the Commercial Aircraft (Airbus) Group. President and Ceo is Dr. Gustav Humbert. Other members of the Corporate Management include Dr. Peter Diesch (Finance, Controlling, Purchasing), Gerhard Eisen (Production), Hans-joachim Gante (Personnel and Legal Affairs), and Dr. Wolfgang Schneider (Development and Design). .
