TELECOM ITALIA AND INTEL: ANNOUNCING A COLLABORATION FOR NEXT-GENERATION ONLINE TV AND INTERNET SERVICES

Milan, 8 March 2010 - Telecom Italia and Intel are announcing a collaboration to distribute next-generation online internet and Tv services via the open source Meego software platform. The goal of this collaboration is to make multimedia content distribution and access easier and more compelling by combining Webtv, video on demand and web-based services as part of an enriched package of new solutions for home entertainment and electronic devices. Meego is the brand-new Linux-based platform created by merging Intel’s Moblin and Nokia’s Maemo and unveiled during the recent Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Meego works over a wide range of devices, from pocket computers to net books, tablets, mediaphones, broadband Webtv access devices, high-definition web contents streaming to Tv, and car-infotainment systems. Cubovision is Telecom Italia’s first Meego-enabled platform, a new multimedia broadband device that brings free and chargeable Tv content to consumers’ homes over digital terrestrial channels. Additionally Cubovision offers the main Web Tv outlets, access to pay -per -view films, free and chargeable applications via an application store and allows users to manage their own personal content including photos, videos and music. Telecom Italia’s Cubovision uses the Intel Atom Ce4150 processor and Meego platform software not just to deliver entertainment content such as free and chargeable digital terrestrial Tv, Webtv, video on demand, on line games and a mediacenter, but also services such as e-government applications (allowing citizens to interact with government) e-healthcare, t-commerce, home automation, distance learning, and remote video surveillance. |
