ICSS 2010 INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON SUSTAINABILITY SCIENCE SAPIENZA UNIVERSITY OF ROME JUNE 23RD-25TH 2010

Roma, 21 giugno 2010 - The Nobel Prize winner Elinor Ostrom at the Icss 2010 Conference, is the acknowledgment to the importance of conceiving a complete theory to identify the more than ever up-to-date issue of long term sustainable government of the commons: atmosphere, climate and oceans. An issue linked to the ongoing failure of the "global thinking" that must re-establish thinking as a whole, in an interrelated way about common interests, among which there is the shared vision of development sustainability. It should be prioritised among growing goals, as a source of welfare not for single nations but for governments and international companies alike if they want to pursue sustainable developmentīs benefits. A key factor in reaching such a goal, is the relation between science and political decisions to be made. An environmental policy can be ordered from above because itīs based on scientific proofs, that according to a political ecology agenda might be pretestuous, or on the other side there is evidence of policies affecting the environment that arenīt supported by the necessaries scientific studies. Sustainability Science wants to overcome this clash through tough use of transdisciplinarity to deal with multiperspective views coming from opposite research fronts. The relation shows many complex factors that will be deeply examinated by Luigi Frati, Rector of Sapienza University of Rome, Gianni Letta Undersecretary of the Council of Ministers, Antoniotajani Vice-president of the European Commission next June 23rd, opening day of International Conference on Sustainability Science. Cirps, Interuniversity Research Centre on Sustainable Development - Sapienza University of Rome, is the first italian academic entity rooted in a net work of universities and research centres focused on the progress of Sustainability Science. Also involved are the scientificly world leaders Universities such as like Harvard University, Lund University, tokyo University, Potsdam Institute for Climate, Asia Institute of Technology, Chalmers University of Technology and many others. Part of the Network are Universities Network such as Ir3s (Integrated Research System for Sustainability Science) that embodies a Network of Japanese Universities, Iaru (International Alliance of Research Universities), Tyndall and Cirps, itself is a Network of 11 italian Universities, seated at Sapienza University of Rome. The constitutional definition of the Network of Networks will be at the core of Second Edition of the International Conference on Sustainability Science Icss2010.
