  LIGHT´S CELEBRATION DOUBLE ANNIVERSARY: TWENTY YEARS OF LIGHTING DESIGN FOR DEAN SKIRA AND TEN YEARS OF "DAYS OF ORIS"

 
   
  Milano, 14 october 2010 "Days of Oris" is an international meeting of architecture taking place every last week end of October in Zagabria. It is organised by Oris House of Architecture civic association and company Arhiteks, under the High Patronage of the President of the Republic of Croatia Dr Ivo Josipović. This year the symposium, to be held on October 23rd – 24th at the Concert Hall “Vatroslav Lisinski”, will be celebrating its tenth anniversary with an ever more high-profile schedule of international guests such as Paulo David (Portugal), Francisco Mangado (Spain), Hans Gangoly (Austria), Davor Katušić (Croatia), Mumbai Studio (India), Maruša Zorec (Slovenia), Dean Skira (Croatia), Guilherme Lassance (Brazil) and Peter Zumthor (Switzerland). The latter will be awarded with Oris Nexe Award for the exceptional contribution to architecture by the President of the Republic of Croatia Dr Ivo Josipović and Mr Ivan Ergović, President of Nexe Group Management, the sponsor of the award. Days of Oris will be featuring also “Paromlin”, an exhibition of the works at the International Research and Survey Competition for Design and Completion of Paromlin Location in Zagreb and a photography exhibition of the city of Brasilia, by Pedro Engel. In addition, it will take place the projection of the movies "Oscar Niemeyer" by Fabiano Maciel; "Borderline Architecture", the film representing Hungary at the Venice´s Biennale and “The Field of Crosses of Nikola Bašić“ a film by Davor Šarić. The complete programme of the events, together with a review of the lecturers, will be published on a special number of the Oris magazine. On October 24th, within the symposium, Dean Skira will be presenting the book "My Light", issued on the occasion of his 20th anniversary as lighting designer. Dean Skira was Born 1962 in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He went to New York in 1986, where he lived until 1994. There he studied interior design at Fashion Institute of Technologies, specialising in architectural lighting, becoming member of Ies North America. In 1995 he returned to Croatia and continued with his work as Lumenart d.O.o. Lighting design. With his team of engineers and designers he realised many international projects. He was awarded many times for his work in the field of lighting and even for the architecture of his office building. In 2007 he opened Skira d.O.o. Lighting design. At present Dean Skira is a vice president od Cratian Lighting Society and member of Croatian designers society, besides being still member of Ies North America. "My Light", published in Croatia by Arhiteks and in Italy by Lupetti Editori di Comunicazione, edited by Arch. Andrija Rusan with Arch. Tamara Zamelli with forewords by Piero Castiglioni, draws the history of Dean Skira as lighting designer. It starts with an essay by the same Dean Skira, who talks about his creative approach and practice, exemplified in the following pages by twenty-some lighting projects, with photos, descriptions and drawings. A special chapter is devoted to the "House of Light", the Lumenart headquarter whose building won at the 2007/2008 edition of the Dedalo – Minosse Prize the Special Caoduro Prize. The book includes also the witnesses of friends and contributors. It ends with a complete list of the projects by Dean Skira. "My Light", edited by Arch. Andrija Rusan with Arch.
