GIORGIO ARMANI TO RECEIVE FIRST AWARD ON RODEO DRIVE WALK OF STYLE ON MARCH 19 IN BEVERLY HILLS

Beverly Hills, Calif. 25 febbraio 2003 - - The City of Beverly Hills and the Rodeo Drive Committee have announced that Giorgio Armani will receive the first-ever Rodeo Drive Walk of Style Award on March 19. The on-going award will honor style legends for their contributions to the worlds of fashion and entertainment. Sculptor Robert Graham´s "Torso," standing 14-feet tall at the intersection of Rodeo Drive and Dayton Way, will also be unveiled as the new symbol for the Rodeo Drive Walk of Style along with a permanent plaque honoring Mr. Armani in the sidewalk along the famous street. Mercedes-benz Usa will be the presenting sponsor of the evening celebration. "Giorgio Armani was the first designer to recognize stardom and its immense influence on fashion," said Fred Hayman, a founder of the Rodeo Drive Committee and Fashion Coordinator for the Academy Awards for 12 years. "His contributions to the world of fashion and entertainment are legendary, and we are delighted to acknowledge Mr. Armani as the first Walk of Style Award recipient." Armani is the first recipient of an exclusive group of style legends who will be honored and inducted into the Walk of Style with permanent plaques featuring quotes and signatures. "Throughout his career, Giorgio Armani has helped actresses and actors radiate true star power with his consistently elegant collections," said Patrick Mccarthy, Chairman and Editorial director of Fairchild Publications. W magazine, published by Fairchild, is also a sponsor of the induction ceremony. Often dubbed "the thinking man and woman´s designer," Giorgio Armani´s elegant and sophisticated creations have been seen on such celebrities as Jodie Foster, Michelle Pfeiffer, Julia Roberts, Ashley Judd, Annette Bening, Russell Crowe, Samuel L. Jackson, Robert Deniro, Benicio Del Toro and Leonardo Dicaprio. His work has also been featured in numerous films. Since his inaugural film project, in which he provided Richard Gere´s wardrobe in American Gigolo in 1980, Mr. Armani has continued to design and select costumes for many other feature films including The Untouchables, Shaft, I Am Sam, Father of the Bride, Batman, What Women Want and the upcoming projects The Italian Job and Hollywood Cops. Giorgio Armani served as the executive producer for Martin Scorsese´s documentary on Italian cinema entitled Il Mio Viaggio in Italia. He has also been involved in the music world, clothing the world tours of artists such as Ricky Martin, Lauryn Hill, Eric Clapton, Tina Turner, and Craig David. In addition, Mr. Armani wardrobed the Los Angeles Opera production of Rigoletto, and the Guggenheim Museum in New York honored him with a comprehensive exhibition in 2000. Armani was selected by an independent group of representatives from the media, entertainment and fashion industries who were invited to nominate style legends for their contributions to fashion and entertainment for the Rodeo Drive Walk of Style Award. Internationally famous, Robert Graham is known for his understanding of the human body as evidenced in his sculptures.
